Verizon?s getting its next smartphone this week, confirming the March 29th release of the LG Lucid, while Samsung?s Galaxy Y Duos gets special treatment for its Portugal launch. Acer Iconia Tab A510
Acer?s hoping to differentiate itself in today?s intense tablet market, offering its Iconia Tab A510 Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich tablet with the right set of specs to get customers? attention. There?s an Nvidia quad-core Tegra 3 processor under the hood, and an extended battery that lasts up to 12 hours of video playback. Weighing in at 1.5 pounds and measuring 10.2 x 6.9 x 0.43 inches, the Iconia Tab A510 comes with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 2.1 support. There?s a fixed-focus front-facing camera for video chats, and a 5-megapixel rear-facing camera for photos. The 10.1-inch WXGA high-def display has a resolution of 1280x800 pixels and an 85-degree viewing angle. Added perks include Acer?s Super 4-Plus-1 design to save battery life during graphic-intensive tasks, along with an enterprise-ready suite of apps and tools for the business user. This second-generation Acer A510 is available in silver or black, currently up for pre-order in the U.S. and Canada for $450.
LG Lucid (Verizon)
Shortly after the leaked details, Verizon confirmed the March 29 launch date for the LG Lucid. It arrives with a modest price for modest features, coming in at $79.99 with a two-year contract. Running Android 2.3 Gingerbread, the LG Lucid is powered by a 1.2GHz dual-core processor with 1GB of RAM. Its screen is large for smartphone standards at 4 inches, coated with Gorilla Glass for durability. The 5-megapixel rear-facing camera isn?t the best in the market, but it will shoot video at full 1080p HD. Where the LG Lucid wins buyers is its 4G LTE capability, faster than 3G wireless access. That means a data plan on top of voice service, and under Verizon?s watch (unless you?re grandfathered in), you?re limited to 2GB in data usage per month.
Samsung Galaxy Y Duos
The Samsung Galaxy Y Duos is known for its dual-SIM capabilities, but with a new promo for its Portugal launch, it will be known for human face video-mapping. The projection mapping technique is one used by marketers on the sides of buildings, but this time it was a man?s face that posed as the canvas, as the story of the Galaxy Y Duos was brought to life. At 3.14 inches the Galaxy Y Duos screen has a resolution of 320x240, supporting 3G, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. Shipping with Android 2.3, the rear-facing camera is a meager 3-megapixels, with internal storage at 512MB. Perhaps Samsung is hoping you?ll ignore the specs once you see the projection-mapping clip.
